Stevens trained in Japan in the veteran women's wrestling promotion, All Japan Women's Pro-Wrestling (AJW). Stevens debuted as the Amazing Kong (Robert Armstrong's term for King Kong in the 1933 movie) in AJW on October 20, 2002. Kong worked for multiple women's promotions in Japan, holding AJW's highest honor, the WWWA World Heavyweight Championship in late 2004. She also formed a tag team, named Double Kong, with Japanese legend Aja Kong feuding with Crush 2000. The two held the tag team championships with several Japanese promotions.[1]

On May 5, 2007, she defeated MsChif in Streamwood, Illinois, for the NWA World Women's Championship. She is the second wrestler to hold both the NWA and AWA titles simultaneously.[1] Kong lost the NWA World Women's title to MsChif at a NWA Central States event in Cape Girardeau, Missouri on April 27. Kong lost the title via count-out, as par pre-match stipulations stated the title could change hands on a count-out.
In June 2007, Amazing Kong made her first appearances in the UK, where she wrestled for three different promotions in successive days. On June 15, she competed in Wales for Celtic Wrestling, beating compatriot Cheerleader Melissa. The next day, she competed for Real Quality Wrestling in Colchester, Essex, in a four way match for the RQW Women's Championship, losing via disqualification. The final of the UK dates had Kong competing at IPW:UK produced Chickfight 9, winning an eight-woman tournament.[1]
Throughout 2006 and 2007, Amazing Kong competed in nine out of the fifteen Shimmer Women Athletes events released on DVD, defeating such wrestlers as Nikki Roxx, MsChif, Cheerleader Melissa and Daizee Haze. On October 13, 2007, Kong got her first Shimmer Championship title shot against Sara Del Rey, losing when she did not answer the referee's ten-count against MsChif. Not long after appearing in Ring of Honor on September 15, 2007, she signed a contract with Total Nonstop Action Wrestling.

Stevens signed a contract with Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA),[3] to become a part of their burgeoning Knockout division. On the October 11 edition of Impact!, Kong made her TNA debut, defeating Gail Kim. At Bound for Glory, she participated in a ten knockout gauntlet to crown the first TNA Women's Knockout Champion, where she was billed as Awesome Kong. She was eliminated by the combined effort of Angelina Love, O.D.B. and Kim. In the following weeks, she squashed Knockouts such as Talia Madison, Angelina Love and Christy Hemme. At Turning Point, she lost a Women's Knockout Championship match to Kim via disqualification, breaking her undefeated streak.
At Final Resolution in 2008, Kong suffered her first pinfall loss in a No Disqualification match for the Women's Knockout Championship against Kim, who pinned her. Later that week, however, on the January 10 episode of Impact!, Kong defeated Kim to win the Women's Knockout Championship with an unknown woman wearing a burkha accompanying her to the ring, later named Raisha Saeed.[4] Kong went on to defeat every challenger over the next few months, including Kim, O.D.B, and Roxxi Laveaux. At Lockdown, Kong and Saeed teamed up for the first time, losing a tag team match to Gail Kim and O.D.B. when Saeed was pinned by O.D.B.Bio 200px-Early_Kongtourage Bio Magnify-clip

On the May 1 edition of Impact!, Kong was announced as the surprise wildcard in the Deuces Wild Tag Team Tournament, as one of the singles competitors (dubbed The Egotistical Eight) to be teamed up with a random partner to compete for the TNA World Tag Team Championship. At Sacrifice, Kong's partner was B.G. James, but they lost to A.J. Styles and Super Eric in the opening round. The following Thursday on Impact!, Kong issued a $25,000 dollar challenge to any females age 18 or older in the Impact! audience, defeated her opponents week after week. Kong then defeated challenger Taylor Wilde, who used a steel chair against Kong. On the June 26 edition of Impact!, Wilde was once again in attendance and when called out to the ring by Kong, she immediately jumped into the ring and brawled with Kong until security came to break it up. On July 10, Wilde defeated Kong to win the $25,000 Challenge and the Women's Knockout Championship. Kong then failed to regain the championship from Wilde at Victory Road.
On the live October 23 edition of Impact Kong defeated Wilde to become a tow-time TNA Women's Knockout Champion. On the November 6 edition of Impact Rhaka Khan turned on her tag team partner Taylor Wilde and aligned herself with Kong and Saeed. At Turning Point, Kong and Saeed were defeated in a tag team match by Roxxi and Wilde.
By late December 2008, Kong started a feud with Christy Hemme. Kong defended her title at Final Resolution in a match, which Hemme won by disqualification, when Rhaka Khan and Raisha Saeed interfered in the match, meaning Kong retained her title. At Genesis, after scoring the pinfall in a six-way match, it was announced that ODB would get a shot at Kong's title. ODB, however, was defeated in a match without any interference from the Kongtourage. Sojourner Bolt and Rhaka Khan left the Kongtourage soon after Bolt became the Number One Contender to Kong's championship.
